New Year, New Classes

Start the new year with a new small group at MacPherson . . .

The Four Wills of God
Time: 10:00-10:45 am, Sunday Mornings
Location: Room 228
Leader: David Hesnard
Start Date:  January 6

The Four Wills of God, by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, is a book study for all adults who are seeking to do the will of God. The study explores the way He directs our steps and frees us to direct our own. To do His will, we must know His will. Join this class for this important book study, led by David Hesnard. The class will last 8-16 weeks.

Who Is God?
Time: 10:00-10:45 am, Sunday Mornings
Location: Room 224
Leader: Tommy Dent
Start Date:  January 6

Who is God? We worship Him every week. We celebrate the birth of Jesus. We pray to Him daily. We hear people talk about God often—even nonbelievers invoke His name. But who is He? What is He like? How do we tell our children, grandchildren, friends, and strangers about the one true God?

The Christian Education Team invites you to join a new Sunday School class based on the book Praying the Attributes of God by Rosemary Jensen. The class will explore different characteristics of God each week. Using Scripture and prayer, class members will “be filled with the love of God and the knowledge of His fullness.” Please let Scott Grumelot know if you are interested in joining this class so he can order a book for you.

I Am a Presbyterian
Time: 10:00-10:45 am, Sunday Mornings
Location: Room 233A
Leader: Pastor Jim
èStart Date:  February 3

This class is designed to provide an overview of what it means to be a Presbyterian. This class will run from the first Sunday in February through the last Sunday of December and it will be in three parts.

The first part will center on the Book of Confessions. During this portion of the class we will look at each of the confessions, creeds, and catechisms within their historical context. This will help each participant to grow in understanding of what it means to be of the Reformed Tradition specifically within the Presbyterian context.

The second part of this class will tackle some of the major theological distinctives of the Presbyterian tradition. Among these distinctives are the sovereignty of God versus the free will of humanity, election, predestination, and baptism.

The third portion of this class will be a look at Presbyterian polity. In so doing we will seek to develop an understanding of our Book of Order and its four component parts. As an aid to understanding our parliamentary proceedings we will have a brief look at Robert’s Rules of Order for parliamentary proceedings.

Each portion of this class will examine the various topics through the lens of Scripture and various Reformed theologians. A word of caution, however, is in order: The participants must understand that we are first and foremost disciples of Jesus and Presbyterians second.
