Contact

The Contact ministry in Fayetteville is a crisis intervention calling center that is manned by volunteers 24 hours per day. MacPherson contributes to this ministry through the budget and has provided volunteers over many years.

Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network

Macpherson Church supports the Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network. CIHN is an affiliate of National IHN, NIHN.org. There are NC sister networks in Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington, Aberdeen, Rocky mount and Greensboro with others developing. The purpose of CIHN is primarily to provide emergency shelter assistance to homeless families. It is a network of 14 local churches and hundreds of volunteers. A church hosts four families for a 7 day period from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. approximately once per quarter or once every 12 weeks. The administrative offices and the Day Center are located on the new Ashton Woods complex site at the corner of Bragg Blvd and Old Shaw Road. This site has been renovated jointly by Cumberland IHN and the Women's Center of Fayetteville to provide emergency shelter, transitional housing and other resources.

Fayetteville Urban Ministry

MacPherson Church supports the Fayetteville Urban Ministry through its budget and with many volunteers and donations from church members. Members contribute to Urban Ministry's clothes closet and its food pantry. Members have also participated as tutors in the reading program.

Centsability Offering

For over 25 years, MacPherson Church has contributed to the the Centsability offering. On the second Sunday of each month during the morning worship service, members bring their offerings and contribute to the Presbyterian Hunger Program for such projects as CHASA (Christian Health and Agricultural Project in Aliduphur, Bangladesh) and Haiti's St. Barnabas Agricultural School which teaches students how to grow more and better crops as well as to form coops.

MacPherson Food Pantry

MacPherson regularly collects food for families in need. Once per month, the food goods collected are taken to Fayetteville Unban Ministry and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for distribution to families.

Habitat for Humanity

Since 1989, MacPherson has been a supporter of this ministry which provides interest-free loans for homes for the working poor, both locally and in foreign countries. In the long-range plan for 2003, MacPherson plans to sponsor the building of a Habitat House for a deserving family in Fayetteville. Several fund raisers are planned throughout this year to raise the funds needed for the construction of the home. The missions committee and the Presbyterian Women have published a MacPherson Cookbook, Our Best Home Cooking. The cookbook is on sale for $10.00 with proceeds going to the fund to build the house. To purchase a copy, contact the church office at church@macphersonchurch.com. Other fund raisers have included a pig pickin' in the Fall of 2001 and a spaghetti dinner in May of 2002 sponsored by one of the circles.

Meals on Wheels

Members of MacPherson volunteer monthly to deliver meals to shut-ins in the Fayetteville area who need prepared meals delivered to their homes.

Medical Benevolence Foundation

MacPherson's members regularly make contributions of monies to the Medical Benevolence Foundation. Members also make hospital gowns, and provide stuffed toys and baby caps used in third world hospitals.

Migrant Ministries

MacPherson supports the efforts of the Sampson County Migrant Ministry in meeting the physical and spiritual needs of an increasing number of migrant workers who work in agricultural jobs in surrounding areas. Clothing, bedding, household items, and books including Bibles are donated by members. The women's circles assemble health kits and school kits for migrant workers and their families. A future goal of the ministry is to teach English to the mothers and their pre-school children.

Our Missionaries to Russia

Al and Ellen Smith, members of MacPherson, answered a call to be missionaries to Russia after visiting our sister church in Oryl, Russia in 2000. Al and Ellen have been serving in Russia since 2001. They work for the church twinning project matching churches in Russia with PCUSA churches in America for mutual spiritual and financial support.

Special Offerings

Throughout the year, MacPherson participates in several special offerings to help with other mission efforts. These include the One Great Hour of Sharing, Joy Gift Offering, Souper Bowl Sunday offering for hunger related projects.
