Dr. Jerrold Burnside and Wife Barbara
At the congregational meeting on July 28, 2002, the congregation voted unaminously to call Dr. Jerrold Burnside to be our minister. Dr Burnside will begin his new ministry on August 1, 2002. Welcome to MacPherson, Dr. Burnside and Barbara. Autobiography
I was born on October 17, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hiram Burnside in Rock Hill, South Carolina. I joined the historic Bethesda Presbyterian Church at the age of twelve. I graduated from Rock Hill High School and Erskine College. After graduation from Columbia Seminary, I married Eugenia Burts. We were married for seventeen years and the parents of one daughter and two sons. Three and one half years after Eugenia's death, I married Barbara Diering. We have been happily married for nine and a half years and have enjoyed sharing in ministry together. I enjoy fishing, playing bridge, especially duplicate bridge and reading. Barbara and I enjoy cooking home cooked meals and having friends over to share in breaking bread together.
Dr.Burnside's pastorate at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Surfside Beach began five years after the church was organized. During his tenure several major building programs were undertaken. A vision for the church was approved and additional staff to include a Director of Music, Children and Youth Ministries; and a Parish Associate were added. This addition of staff and facilities led to the expansion of programs and ministry to the congregation and the community.
